The overall design concept for this stunning project was to blend the architecture of the rustic modern home with the stunning wooded hillside. The site lines of the home provided a great view down the valley and wanted the pool to fit into the hillside and improve the already stunning view. The client wanted a large space to have dining and entertainment with covered areas, a firepit and a large kitchen for teens and adults.
The use of natural dry stacked stone and wood to create a more organic rustic feel. Darker finishes of the stains, granite color and pool interior were added to create the design style. The use of the brown hues to blend with the wood and home stone were incorporated. The pool deck we wanted was to pull all the other textures together.Nothing was to stand out but to be part of the setting.

Modern Pool recreational depth with ledge with spa but open to something besides a rectangle
Incorporate water and fire features The wall was curved to draw the eye from the house sight line and give a glimpse of the water and fire features.
The features were set to be enjoyed from all the primary gathering spaces.
Keep the trees which are required to terrace up and down the hillside with the different terraces. The grade cannot change or have paving or any trenching in the trees safe root zone. The walls were maximum 24" tall to also provide seating for the larger gatherings
Perimeter overflow spa slightly elevated to give intrigue and reflection but not to be a focal point but part of the space. Wanted to be close to the fireplace and the firepit.
The stone on the house was quarried 15 years ago and could not be duplicated so created a blend to compliment the home. The random rectangle stone pattern blended with the home but instead of mortared joints the drystack finish was chosen to give a more organic feel as we were moving away from the architecture and towards the natural setting. Stain colors were chosen to match the home on the cabana structures
The grade was the biggest challenge but created the great terraces and we were able to keep all but 4 original trees. This was the reason for two different cabanas and the full-length steps between provided lots of space together and flowed well. Full length steps from the porch and the turf terrace allowed none of the view to be blocked to the pool from the home primary sight line. The turf terrace added to the modern organic feel of the space and a great place to layout and look at the stars.
The cabana posts offered a unique look that did require some work with the engineer and the reason for the stub columns and additional support.
